Richard Myers
PhDDr. Richard Myers is a PhD‑trained geneticist and genomic scientist with decades of leadership experience advancing large‑scale genomics research and its translation into medicine. He is widely recognized for his contributions to the Human Genome Project and for his work applying genomic and genetic analysis to understand human traits and disease.
Dr. Myers serves as Chief Scientific Officer at HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, where he has held senior leadership roles including President, Science Director, and Faculty Investigator. Earlier in his career, he was Chair of the Department of Genetics at Stanford University and Director of the Stanford Human Genome Center, where he led a team that contributed more than ten percent of the data used to generate the first public human genome sequence. He previously held faculty appointments at the University of California, San Francisco, following postdoctoral training at Harvard University.
Dr. Myers’ research focuses on understanding how genetic variation and gene regulation contribute to human disease, with particular emphasis on neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric disorders, cancer, and biomarker development. He has authored numerous scientific publications and has played a central role in building genomic infrastructure and research programs that support precision medicine.
