Maryam Tabatabai serves as the Vice President and General Counsel at Baylor Genetics. In her role, Maryam is the chief legal counsel and a key strategic member of the senior management team. 

Maryam received her bachelor’s in journalism and Middle Eastern studies from The University of Texas in Austin, TX. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Maryam went to law school at the University of Houston in Houston, TX  

As an experienced corporate attorney, Maryam has successfully represented various public and private clients in complex transactions at the international law firm of Baker McKenzie. Some transactions she covered included acquisitions, divestitures, mergers, restructurings, joint ventures, and other strategic alliances. While at Baker McKenzie, Maryam represented Baylor College of Medicine in the formation of the joint venture that became known as Baylor Genetics. Her role in forming Baylor Genetics gives her unique insight and allows her to better navigate Baylor Genetics through a highly regulated industry.  

Prior to law school, Maryam taught 8th grade English for America corps member and remains active in the Houston branch of the organization. In October 2019, Maryam received the Top 50 General Counsel Award from the National Diversity Counsel. 

Her professional and personal priorities include giving back through pro bono work for the Tahirih Justice Center and other advocacy organizations to make a meaningful difference in her community.
